Another Friday evening, another pre-salsa meal in Ewell. By the way, for those wondering, 'Ewell' is pronounced 'Yule'.
I fancied a curry and as Paprika, the only other Indian in Ewell Village, didn't display a menu outside, I wandered into Dhansiri. Behind the tinted glass facade is a competent Indian restaurant.
I started with a papaddum and onion bhaji, both staples of a British curry house experience and both came through the taste test.
For main course, the usual suspects were all listed but my eye was drawn to the Raan-e-guddaz lamb shank, which had been marinated overnight in tomatoes and onion sauce. It wasn't quite fall off the bone soft as described but the meat was very tender and generous. I liked the whole lamb shank being served on the bone as it confirmed that it had been cooked on the bone, which retains a lot of flavour.
My mango lassi was adequate, perhaps not quite as full of mango flavour as others I've had. I was offered a free liqueur at the end of the meal.
Overall, a solid Indian.
